Stand stand up paddle boarder laird Hamilton attacked by shark
Laird Hamilton Expert water man and professional surfer was out stand up paddling offshore near the west coast of Maui. When according to witness and photographer Kelly Robinson the shark was making slow passes under Hamilton till all of a sudden the shark came straight up from the bottom and just missed him! “it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen!” said Kelly. Hamilton being the water man that he is chose not to ride back on the support boat and finish his paddle back to shore. A very luck Hamilton did not even receive scratch from this near miss. Great white sharks are very rare in Hawaii but every year there are more and more sighting of white sharks.

Schooling Galapagos Sharks of coast of West Maui
PADI SCUBA instructor Mark Wilson snapped this great shot at a secret location off the west side of Maui. Mark said “The schooling Galapagos sharks are pretty much at this spot every day in the Summer and Fall.” Mark also mentioned that the day he took this incredible shot was a slow day and he usually sees twice as many sharks there! During certain times of the year Galapagos shark will school up and segregate by sex. Mark claims that he has never used any chum or fish to attract the sharks and he said that “the sharks just hang out there!”

Killer Whales were seen swimming by Molokini island near Maui.
A pod of Killer Whales were seen swimming by Molokini island. Orcas are extremely rare in the Hawaiian island chain. 35 year boat captain Clint Porla said that this is first time he had ever heard of Killer Whales in Hawaii let alone seen them.

great white shark following pregnant humpback whale
Researcher following humpback whales on there long migration from Alaska to Maui took this amazing photo. Researchers believe the whale appeared to be a pregnant mother. Researchers also said “the white shark seemed less then happy with our presents!” Full grown whales usually have no problem fending off sharks how ever new born calves are not so lucky.

Tiger shark eating a green sea turtle at kaanapali Maui
Snorkelers at the famous Black Rock at Kaanapali Beach were horrified when 12 foot tiger shark was seen chasing turtles. Rookie helicopter pilot Lance Manyon just happen to be passing by to take a quick photo before the Tiger Shark swam off. Black Rock is a popular spot with tourists for viewing green turtles and is located in front of the Sheraton Maui.

Privet boat out of Mala bout ramp out of Maui headed over to Lani for an after noon of diving at 2nd Cathedral Lava tube. Wile in side the the tube a white shark came over to briefly check out the divers bubble then quickly left the seen. According to a radio report by a near by fisherman that there was large dead pilot whale near by the dive site.
